Our Soprano MARIE-CLAUDE BOTTIUS!
The recital "Slave or Queen… Lyrical Exoticism" is now an album, MARIE-CLAUDE BOTTIUS's debut album!
In addition to the single "Zamba's Prayer," you'll find some delightful surprises…
How did French opera address the themes of foreigners, exoticism, and slavery in the 19th century? And how were Black women perceived in this context? Were they slaves… or queens?
All these subjects graced the stages of opera, and slavery was no exception!
Committed to these historical and societal issues, we invite you to escape by interpreting the melodies and arias of operas composed during this era from this new perspective. She built a program around the works of Clapisson, "Le Code Noir", and Meyerbeer, "L'Africaine", to highlight the abolitionist writers, musicians, and composers of the time. Famous melodies like Chausson's "Le Colibri" and Duparc's "L'Invitation au Voyage" thus took on a new dimension!
The album will be released on all platforms and physically at the end of November by Maguelone Records, the French melody label.
