HILARIO YANEZ
Guitarist

RÉMY BOUCHER has catalogued HILARIO YANEZ as a guitarist with impeccable technique expressing remarkable musicality, endowed with solid nerves and capable of taking on any challenge.

HILARIO YAÑEZ has embarked on an international career in America and Europe. Each time, he has astonished and enchanted his audience and garnered the most glowing reviews from the press with a high-flying repertoire that he delivers with a gripping interiority combined with dazzling mastery. The unusual sounds that he draws from his instrument as well as his exceptional dexterity mark an authentic, sensitive and generous personality.

Hilario Yañez was born in the city of Querétaro, Mexico.

He began music at the age of ten at the House of Culture in San Juan with Professor Luis Herrera Baez who introduced him to classical guitar. Two years later, he played works by Tárrega, Carulli, Bach and other Renaissance or Baroque composers.

At the age of 17 he decided to devote himself entirely to music and left San Juan to undertake a Bachelor of Music at the University of Querétaro. He studied guitar with Alfredo Uribe Olivera and composition with Doctors Mauricio Beltran and Ignacio Baca-Lobera. The seriousness he showed in his approach to classical music led him to be hired at the age of 19 at the Conservatory of Music "J. Guadalupe Velázquez" in Querétaro, where he taught counterpoint, harmony and guitar for five years. At 20 he began to appear at the main guitar events in the country, such as the Hispano-American Guitar Festival of Tijuana and the National Guitar Festival of Paracho where he took every opportunity to take master classes with several guitarists. At the same time, he made his debut as a soloist at the National and International Guitar Festivals of Querétaro. In 2003 he received the "Young Creators and Performers" scholarship from the IQCA (Querétano Institute of Culture and Arts), with the project of promoting the works of Querétaro composers. That same year, he took a master class with Gonzalo Salazar, one of the great Mexican guitarists, recognized by international critics as one of the best performers of contemporary music. Salazar accepted him as a student in Mexico City and would play a key role in Hilario's artistic development. In fact, for three years, Hilario would commute between Querétaro and Mexico City.

In 2005, the IQCA awarded Hilario its “Young Creators and Performers” prize again, this time with the project of performing two concertos for guitar and orchestra: Leo Brouwer’s Concerto Elegiaco and J.-S. Bach’s Concerto BWV 1042, for violin, string orchestra and continuo, which he transcribed himself.

In 2009, he began his master’s studies at the Conservatoire de musique du Québec where, for two years in Quebec City, he developed his art and diversified his repertoire with the famous virtuoso Rémi Boucher. It should be noted that Hilario’s training in Canada was made possible thanks to the contributions of the Secretariat of External Relations of Mexico, the Government of the Province of Quebec and the IQCA, which provided Hilario with its “Artistic Training for Students Abroad 2010” scholarship.

In May 2011, his exceptional talent and hard work were rewarded. Indeed, his Master's degree, Interpretation profile, Guitar specialty was acquired, crowned by a First Prize awarded unanimously at the Conservatory's exit competition, presented in Montreal. In the fall of 2011, he was invited as a soloist to perform in France where his virtuosity, musicality and art of captivating the public were unanimously acclaimed by critics.
