Baritone

French baritone Benoît Déchelotte impresses with the beauty of his tone and the refinement of his interpretation.

He has just shone last June at the Opéra Comique in the role of the Wine Lover - L'Île de Merlin by Gluck, he will be very busy with several roles and concerts in 2025-26 including three concerts for the Seine Riverside Music Festival in August 2025, Don Quixote by Ibert and Ravel at the Vernonnet Church and Notre Dame de l'Isle Church: Elegie by Massenet, Invitation au voyage by Duparc, Violons dans le soir by Saint-Saëns, Théâtre Yolande Moreau: Caplet, viens une flûte invisible soupire, and Ravel's chansons madécasses. In September 2025, he will sing for the Opera semi-final rounds of the Besançon Conducting Competition (excerpts from Cosi fan tutte). In October, he will sing at the Oxford International Song Festival, with the Orient Express concert and a Graham Johnson Lecture Concert on the year 1825 for Schubert. In December he will be Gardefeu in Offenbach's La vie parisienne with the opera Côté Choeur in Champigny sur Marne, Mennecy and Moulins, and on May 12th at the Théâtre du 13ème. He will again be Moralès in Carmen with artiste opéra in March 2026, at the Théâtre des Variétés in Paris. He will be Baron Douphol in La Traviata with Ouverture Opéra en Suisse in Sion for twelve performances in September 2026.

Benoît Déchelotte was recently Moralès and Dancaïre in Carmen, Guglielmo in Cosi fan tutte (Les Escales lyriques), Escamillo in Carmen (St Pauls Opera), Belcore in Donizetti's L'elisir d'amore (Longhope opera), Chairman Walsingham in A feast in time of Plague by César Cui (Oxford Opera Society), Le Cicérone in Paris, à nous deux! by Jean Françaix (Guildhall), Ben in Le Téléphone by Menotti and Valentin in Le Petit Faust by Hervé.

A Young artist of Oxford International Song festival 2024-2025, he also took part in the Philippe Jaroussky Academy in 2022-2023.

Grand prize at the 2023 competition les maîtres du chant, he won the 2nd prize for men at the Concours international de Canari and 2nd prize at the Edith Poulsen Competition in 2023 ; 2nd prize for young artist at the 2022 Concours international des jeunes talents in Normandy. He was a finalist in the Vivonne competition in 2021.

He trained at the Guildhall School of Music and Drama in London where he graduated with a MPerf with Samantha Malk and Stephan Loges, after having studied with Marcin Habela. Various masterclasses have allowed him to meet Tobias Truniger, Kamal Khan, Julia Bullock, Richard Hetherington, David Gowland and Craig Terry. During his studies, he was a recipient of the prestigious bursary by the International Opera Awards Foundation.

Benoît began studying piano at the age of 5 and then the organ with François Ménissier at the Rouen Conservatory, where he graduated in 2013. Finalist in 2017 at the Grand Prix Jean- Louis Florentz, he graduated with honors the same year in Eric Lebrun’s studio. He now performs regularly as a soloist or accompanist.
