Soprano Stefania Bonfadelli is well known for her striking performances of opera heroines, especially the great Coloratura roles. Today, Stefania devotes herself to opera productions, where she brings her unique knowledge as a performer that understands the very essence of this great art.
Stefania Bonfadelli was one of the most sought-after lyric coloratura sopranos of her generation and has performed around sixty roles worldwide in theatres such as the Vienna State Opera, the Teatro alla Scala di Milano, the Rossini Opera Festival, the Bayerische Staatsoper Munich, the Deutsche Oper Berlin, the Frankfurt Opera, the Royal Opera House Covent Garden, the Tokyo Opera House Bunka Kaikan and others. She has worked with prestigious conductors such as Riccardo Muti, Lorin Mazel, Sejij Ozawa, Daniel Oren and with famous directors such as Dario Fo, Franco Zeffirelli, Robert Carsen, Luca Ronconi, Jurgen Flimm, Axel Corti.
Ms. Bonfadelli graduated in Italian literature and musicology at the Sapienza University of Rome. There she took the opportunity to deepen her knowledge of Rossini's dramaturgy with Philip Gosset. She teaches the art of coloratura at the Rodolfo Celletti Academy in Martina Franca, singing at the National Academy of Dramatic Art "Silvio D'Amico" in Rome and directing at the Verona Opera Academy since 2018. She is a member of the Accademia dei Philodramatii in Milan.
She recorded La Traviata for TDK with Placido Domingo as conductor and Franco Zeffirelli as director – Rai trade, Le Comte Ory for Deutsche Grammophon, Lucia di Lammermoor TDK, I Puritani for BMG.
Her current and future projects include La Vedova Socrate, a theatrical monologue by Franca Valeri, at the prestigious Anfiteatro Greco in Syracuse, at the Piccolo Teatro in Milan and on tour in Italy, the revival of Maria Callas. Master Class at the Parco della Musica in Rome and at the Teatro San Babila in Milan, Il Barbiere di Siviglia at the Teatro Massimo in Palermo.

In October 2016, Stefania Bonfadelli made her directorial debut with a new production of Donizetti's Don Pasquale for the Auditorium of Tenerife in Santa Cruz. This was an important project with young singers. She returned to the Auditorium of Tenerife in December 2018 for a new production of Il voyage a Reims by Rossini. In the summer of 2017 she was invited for a new production of Un giorno di regno by Verdi at the Festival della Valle D'Itria in Martina Franca.
Another important step in her career as a director was her first stage production: on September 16, 2017 she staged the famous play Maria Callas by Terrence McNally. Master Class at the Parco della Musica in Rome, and on tour in several other Italian theaters.
In the summer of 2019 she met on stage Corradino by Rossini (first version of Matilde di Shabran) at the Rossini Festival in Wildbad. In the summer of 2021 she returns to the Wildbad Festival staging La scala di seta by Rossini.
In 2022 she will be performing “La scala di seta” at the Teatro Filarmonico in Verona, “Finte follie e veraci pazzie ossia il teatro delle primedonne” at the Teatro Farnese in Parma, a play she wrote herself, “Kammermusik” by H.W. Henze at the Montepulciano Festival. In the 2022/2023 season she directed “Norma” at the Teatro Carlo Felice in Genoa in a production with the Teatro Comunale in Bologna. In October 2022 she staged “Il viaggio a Reims” in Augsburg.
