Baritone
The highly talented baritone Rémi Ortega specializes in character roles while also having performed leading roles. Always very busy, Rémi Ortega's upcoming engagements include the Solo Baritone in "Le Rêve d’Etienne" at the Théâtre du Passage, Neuchâtel, Switzerland, from December 13 to 21, 2025, Actor-Storyteller in "Casse-Noisette" in Les Variations Musicales, Salle Paderewski, Lausanne, Switzerland, January 10 and 11, 2026, Bizet's "Doctor Miracle", Le Podestà di Padova, Rouen Opera, France, from January 26 to February 1, 2026, to name a few...
Originally from Marseille, he began his singing studies at the Regional Conservatory of his city in the class of Claude Méloni, then joined the Haute Ecole de Musique de Lausanne in the class of Jörg Durmuller, where he attended masterclasses with Alain Garichot, Laurent Pillot, Yvonne Naef and John Fiore.
He made his stage debut as the Corporal in Donizetti's La Fille du Régiment in Marseille under the direction of Bruno Conti, then as the Innkeeper Pasek and the Mosquito in Janacek's The Cunning Little Vixen in Monthey, conducted by Ivan Törzs.
In 2015, he began to perform more regularly at opera houses, notably in Switzerland at the Fribourg Opera, where he sang several roles, including Simon in Gesseney-Rappo's "Carlotta ou la Vaticane" and Schlémil and Hermann in Offenbach's The Tales of Hoffmann. He also sang the title role in Mozart's The Marriage of Figaro under the direction of Leonardo Garcia Alarcon at the BCV Concert Hall in Lausanne.
He won the Instant Lyrique Performance Prize at the 2019 Masters of Singing Competition, and has since begun to perform regularly at the Opera, finding his balance in Operetta and Comic Opera.
At the Clermont-Ferrand Opera, he sang the role of Taddeo in Rossini's "L'Italienne à Alger," then several roles at the Lausanne Opera: Doolittle in "My Fair Lady," Cacatois XXII in "L'île de Tulipatan," Baron de Pictordu in Viardot's "Cendrillon," and Morales in "Carmen," then the role of the Podestà in Bizet's "Doctor Miracle."
