Patricia Panton began her musical studies in London at the Guildhall School of Music and Drama. From the Conservatorio Giuseppe Verdi, di Milano she received her diploma in singing and Music. After a singing career throughout Europe, Ms. Panton decided to dedicate her artistic efforts exclusively to stage direction. As the assistant to Margarita Wallmann (the first woman opera stage director) for over 12 years, Ms. Panton has worked on productions in houses including the Paris Opera, Covent Garden and Liceu Barcelona; with world-renowned artists such as Placido Domingo, Seiji Ozawa, Monserrat Caballé, Renata Scotto, Raina Kabaivanska, Katia Ricciarelli and Renato Bruson. Ms. Panton's successful debut as stage director for "Un Ballo in maschera" (Capitole de Toulouse)in 1982 was followed by her debut in Italy with "La Traviata" at the Opera di Genova, hailed by the critics as 'cinematographic in dimension'. Since then, her directing activities have included return engagements to the Capitole de Toulouse, Opéra de Toulon, Opéra de Marseille, Teatro Vittorio Emanuele di Messina, Teatro Sociale di Mantova, the Puccini Festival at Torre de Lago, Teatro Regio di Torino, Teatro Giglio di Lucca, and Opera di Cagliari (Sardegnia).
In June 1992, Ms. Panton inaugurated the Athens Festival at the Herode Atticus with a new production of "Nabucco", and was invited back in later seasons to direct productions of "Otello" and "Carmen"; Other notable productions include: "La Bohème"(Avenche,Switzerland; Aspendos Festival and Izmir, Turkey), "Il Barbiere di Siviglia" (Teatro Ariston di San Remo; Teatro Fraschini di Pavia, Italy), and a new production for the Fete du Prince in Monaco in 2000. "Madama Butterfly" (Puccini Festival, Torre del Lago), "Faust" (Opera Grand Rapida, USA) Opéra de Marseille), Tirana (Albania) "Manon" (Palm Beach Opera, USA),"Don Giovanni" "Un ballo in Maschera" also at the Palm beach opera; "Macbeth" (Teatro Politeama di Lecce Italy); "Il Filosofo di campagna" (Strasbourg); "La Sonnambula" (Cagliari); "Adriana Lecouvreur" (Capitole de Toulouse) Teatro Vittorio Emanuele di Messina);"Soirée Offenbach" (Opéra de Monte-Carlo, Opéra de Marseille and St. Eustache in Montreal (Canada) and" Rigoletto" (Santa Cruz, Tenerife, in Avenche, Switzerland, in Palm Beach (USA) and in Agrigento in 2013 Mme Panton has staged several operas in Albania (Tirana) "Faust" "Carmen", "Werther" and "Ali Pasha von Janina" (world premier) in April 2013 "Il Trovatore" in Vevey Switzerand in May 2013.In New Delhi and Mumbai (India) Mme Panton staged 'The Pearl Fishers" and "Carmen". 'The Pearl Fishers" was also taken to Colombo (Sri Lanka) were it was widely hailed as a spectacular Production. Future plans include a "Don Giovanni" in the Ucrain and a world Premier of the opera "L'Amant Anonyme" by the Chevalier Saint George in La Martinique in April 2015. This will be a world premier.
Originally from Johannesburg, South Africa, Ms. Panton now lives in France. Ms. Panton was for many years Resident Stage director and Director of Production for l'Opéra de Monte-Carlo.Today Ms. Panton is a free-lance stage director.
