Renowned Quebec opera singer Marcel Beaulieu is known for his rich and deep bass voice.
Among his recent performances in May 2023 at the Opéra de Québec, Marcel Beaulieu played the role of the Bonze in Madama Butterfly and brilliantly sang the role of Colline in July 2022, during the presentation of Puccini's La Bohème at the Festival Opéra de Saint-Eustache des Grandes Laurentides.
Marcel Beaulieu has sung many roles at the Opéra de Québec including Doctor Grenvil (La Traviata), the Bailiff (Werther), Sparafucile (Rigoletto) with honorable mention and the previous year Betto (Gianni Schicchi). At the Opéra de Montréal, at the world premiere of "Another Brick in the World", he played the role of the Judge
Reinvited consecutively to the Opéra de Rimouski, in June 2018, he played the roles of Abimélech and the old Hebrew (Samson et Dalila by Camille Saint-Saëns); In previous years, the roles of Oroveso (Norma) 2017, and Crespel (Tale of Hoffmann) 2015. Appreciated by critics for his rich and deep voice, his artistic participations extend to France, Opéra de Metz 2008, for the role of Palémon in Massenet’s Thaïs. Among these roles sung in Toronto, with Opera in Concert, for roles such as Lothario (Mignon), Silva (Ernani), Don Alfonso (Lucrezia Borgia), the Spirit of the Lake (Rusalka), the King of the Sea (Sadko). Other Ontario performances include Prince de Bouillon (Adriana Lecouvreur, Opera York), First Soldier (Salomé, Opera Lyra of Ottawa), title role of the opera Attila, and Rocco (Fidelio) (Tryptych Production Toronto),
A graduate of Laval University with a Master’s degree in Voice Performance, Marcel Beaulieu maintains an equally extensive oratorio repertoire. He has been guest soloist for Dvorak’s Stabat Mater (Ottawa National Arts Centre Orchestra and Kitchener Waterloo Symphony Orchestra), Haydn’s The Creation (Thunder Bay Symphony Orchestra and the Montreal Philharmonic Society Orchestra), Puccini’s Messa di Gloria and Dubois’s Les Sept Paroles du Christ (Orchestre Philarmonique du Nouveau Monde), to name a few. And most recently, in March, he was guest soloist in the Stabat Mater (Rossini) and Te Deum (Kodaly) with the Montreal Philharmonic Society under the direction of guest conductor Peter Tiboris (New York) and Pascal Côté.
