THE ROMANTIC GUITAR IN ALL ITS SPLENDOR

From the 1800s, the city of Vienna, Austria, experienced a period of particularly intense musical activity, both in terms of creation and practice. In this climate, the romantic guitar arouses a real craze. This wonder, Pascal Valois translates it in his album, Vienna 1840, by interpreting - on period instruments - some pieces of major composers in romantic guitar of the XIXth century: Johan Kaspar Mertz, Giulio Regondi and Emilia Giuliani-Guglielmi.

Le Voyage Romantique
19th Century Masterpieces for Guitar and Cello

Pascal Valois and Jivko Georgiev invite the public on a journey that will take them to the heart of romantic musical Europe. This journey will take viewers from the moving Nocturnes by German composer Friedrich Burgmüller to the breathtaking virtuosity of the Grand Sonata, composed by Italian guitarist and violinist Niccolò Paganini.

The program also includes the Divertimento op. 46 by Bernhard Romberg. Besides having been a great cello virtuoso, Romberg counted Beethoven among his admirers! A route through the masterpieces of the 19th century would not be complete without a detour through the music of Franz Schubert, the romantic composer par excellence.

Valois and Georgiev perform his sonata Sonata in A minor “Arpeggione”, which several specialists consider to be one of the most beautiful musical works in the world.
