“As soon as he entered the stage, the baritone charmed the audience by embodying the characters created by Da Ponte with scenic movements and laughing looks. And what about his musical performance! Among all the tunes presented, including “Non più andrai” by Le Nozze, “Donne mie, la fate a tanti” by Cosi, and “Madamina, il catalogo è questo” by Don Giovanni, Laporte was able to deliver an impeccable performance , with a voice that is sometimes round and warm, sometimes powerful and expressive. [...] the impressive vocal qualities of Hugo Laporte and the natural ease of his playing made this evening a real success.”

-The Opera - Quebec Lyric Art Review, Matilde Legault

Orford Music Festival - The Incredible Life of Da Ponte (Agora Orchestra, Nicolas Ellis)

"The baritone Hugo Laporte [...] stole the show. The young singer was indeed stunning in his interpretations of Largo al factotum and Air du toréador, two roles he has already held for the Société d lyrical art of the Kingdom in Saguenay and which he completely possessed. He delivered them with such ease (despite the hellish rhythm of the first one) that the audience gave him spontaneous ovations each time. [...] The soloist had already given a good idea of his talent in the Di Provenza, il mar, il suol, performed with both enviable clarity and palpable emotion."

-La Tribune, Steve Bergeron

Guilty Pleasures of the Opera, Orchester symphonique de Sherbrooke (February 2019)

"A worthy contribution from Quebec [...] Impeccable too, the choice of Hugo Laporte for these songs, because the baritone is distinguished by a warm tone, a noble song (Noël nouvelleet), never precious, and, above all, an excellent pronunciation "

-Le Devoir, Christophe Huss

Noël Euroradio, Radio-Canada ICI Musique (December 2018)

" Hugo Laporte is a high-class Albert, who wears handsome and has a rich baritone voice of perfect homogeneity. "

-Bachtrack, Emmanuel Bernier

Albert (Werther, Opéra de Québec, October 2018)

"Laporte demonstrates a beautiful homogeneity in his register, the highs keeping their full baritone color. The quality of the French vowels is also one of his strengths."

-Ludwig van Montreal, Samuel Croteau

Albert (Werther, Opéra de Québec, October 2018)

"Hugo Laporte, unrecognizable with his make-up and his mask of the Phantom, turns out to be solid in the skin of his character, and even moving. His playing and his singing reflect well the paradox of the Phantom, at the same time pariah suffering from being rejected , and manipulator who will stop at nothing to achieve his ends. His vocal mastery allows him to rise to the challenge and he commands, as he should."

-Ludwig van Montreal, Caroline Rodgers

Phantom (The Phantom of the Opera, Orchester de la francophonie, July 2018)

" A thundering cast [...] Hugo Laporte, exceptional in the skin of the Phantom. His powerful and solid voice, but also his convincing playing make him a mysterious, frightening and sensitive maestro. "

-Musical Avenue, Nathalie Katinakis

Phantom (The Phantom of the Opera, Orchester de la francophonie, July 2018)

" Hats off to Hugo Laporte's “Fantôme” for his majestic vocal flights as well as his irreducible presence on stage. "

"Hugo Laporte, more than excellent in Mercutio [...] His voice is beautiful and placed and his technique is solid, but beyond these two essential prerequisites, he impresses with his ease, his presence on stage, his gestures , his dynamic and pleasing to the eye stage play"

Hugo Laporte excels in the role of Mercutio. The voice is round, warm and just the air "Mab, the queen of lies" in the first act is very well executed. He is convincing in the third act scene where he is struck by Tybalt's sword. It is absolutely necessary to see him on stage again in the next few years.
